Difficult Second Child: The 5 Best Bad Movie Sequels

August 23rd, 2008

Good news, Fairuza Balk: you have at least one ally in your fight to uphold the honor of your first starring appearance in a movie (that being Return to Oz). If you ever did have such a battle.

Well. Anyway.

A writer for ExpressingNightOut.com recently made a list of the ‘Five Best Bad Movie Sequels’, chronicling those movies that weren’t GREAT compared to their first-movie older brothers, but which managed to pull their weight on second glance. And Balk’s first movie, Return to Oz, fell in at number three. It was cited for its campy moments and overall dark theme, with the writer noting that anybody who’s a Dark Crystal or Labyrinth fan (both Jim Henson movies, and both fantastic, by my account) will love this one. Guess I’ll have to watch it again, since its bee, what, fifteen years since I saw it? Something like that.

Anyway. The other movies on the list included The Devil’s Rejects, which followed up on House of 1,000 Corpses, Jaws 2, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, all of which have fairly obvious precursors.

Check out the list here.
